Wonder Man Preview Unveils Marvel's Most Meta Series To Date

Marvel is aware that audiences might be experiencing some superhero fatigue, so they've decided to incorporate that very idea into their next superhero show.

That's right, the debut preview for Wonder Man has been released, and it promises a self-referential angle on the MCU.

The preview, which premiered on Oct. 10, also subtly moved the Wonder Man launch date back from its original end of 2025 slot into early 2026.

Why one more superhero movie? People is weary of superheroes. Why go see them in the cinema? Wonder Man spoke to me on a profound level. There is an opportunity to shock audiences. To reimagine the whole category of narrative.

The interviewer responds: "Have you considered about the cast?"

The preview then cuts to lead actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who's watching the conversation on his mobile device, and the preview concludes.

Key Details About Wonder Man

We were previously aware that Wonder Man would be a meta take on the MCU. The show features Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, a Hollywood actor who becomes a super-powered being (the hero Wonder Man).

The rest of the cast features Ben Kingsley reprising his role as Iron Man 3's Trevor Slattery, Demetrius Grosse as Eric Williams (also known as Grim Reaper), Ed Harris as Simon's agent Neal Saroyan, and Arian Moayed returning as DODC officer P. Cleary.

The Studio's Meta-Humor Strategy

We have limited information about the storyline of Wonder Man, but it's clear that the studio intends to laugh at its own tropes.

In the aftermath of Deadpool & Wolverine, it appears like the production company is all in on meta-humor. Will this approach succeed without the star power of its previous leads? We'll have to wait and see.
